For those of you yet to to experience the wonders of Shiprock, it is arguably one of Sydney’s best shore dives. A good discussion on Shiprock can be found here.
This is essentially a wall dive in an aquatic reserve, with an impressive amount of marine life (to say the least). If timed correctly with respect to the tides it’s possible to do this dive with the assistance of the current, both on the way out and on the way back, which makes for a very relaxed dive. For this reason, the aim is to be in the water at 8.30am, and surfacing about an hour later.
The other important consideration is parking (on Shiprock Road). Shiprock is extremely popular with divers and parking can be difficult at the optimal times for diving (high tide). It is therefore recommended that for this dive you arrive no later than 7.30am.
For those inclined, there is a post-dive bunch at the Craft Beer Coopery!
