Fiona, Gary, Hartley, Mark, Simon, and Steve T rubbed the sleep from their eyes for an early morning dive at Bare Island. There was plenty of parking at 7am, and it turned into a beautiful, sunny morning. The bay was calm except for a slight swell on the eastern side of Bare Island, which is the side we chose to dive. Water temperature was 17 degrees and visibility generally under 10 metres, a trifle disappointing for winter and considering recent reports, but nonetheless acceptable for a relaxing and enjoyable one-hour dive to a maximum depth of 10 metres. Marine life highlights included pipefish, octopus, the obligatory blue groper, sponge gardens and Port Jackson sharks which are starting to appear in greater numbers.
Post-dive coffee and chat was at the Boatshed La Perouse, where the group also enjoyed the expansive water views and (in some cases) a breakfast of bacon and egg rolls.
