Bare Island July 2024

Waves Shape

The scheduled dive at The Leap had to be moved to Bare Island because of rough conditions. After gearing up in the delightfully chilly southerly wind, our two hardy divers made their way down to cruise the western side of the island.

The viz was pretty ordinary at 3m, the temperature of 16-17C was down from previous weeks and there was a fair amount of surge. What more could you ask for? We made our way along the wall occasionally venturing off to explore some of the isolated, deeper bommies, reaching a maximum depth of 15m. There was not a lot of fish life apart from some frisky PJs. The sponge gardens were of course just as spectacular as ever and overall, one would have to say the dive was well worth the effort. After 25 minutes we turned around and headed back to our exit point, only to find rougher conditions than before the dive, but nothing too stressful.

After getting changed and given the later start we forwent the usual coffee and called it a day. Another great SSAC shore dive!
