Ben, Hartley and Steve T made the journey to Bushrangers Bay at Bass Point Reserve.

Despite the southerly swell and raging westerly winds, the sheltered Bushrangers Bay was calm and inviting. Water temperature was 18 degrees and visibility up to 15 metres. At around the junction of the inner and outer bays we encountered several Grey Nurse sharks, undoubtedly the highlight of the dive. We then cruised around the walls of the outer bay, the most notable inhabitants of which were the numerous rays resting on the bottom. From the sides of the outer bay, we could clearly make out the rocky structures in the middle which we later visited and where we reached our maximum depth of 18 metres. We then returned to the school of Grey Nurses and spent more time enjoying, photographing and taking videos of the graceful creatures before cruising back along the inner bay. Other interesting creatures encountered on the dive include a purple dragon nudibranch and the schools of pelagic fish which no doubt keep the Grey Nurses interested in the location.
Post-dive refreshments and debrief were at Rick’s Oak Flats home (Thanks Rick!) where we enjoyed tea, biscuits and the great lake views.
