For the first official club dive of 2024 Fe, Hartley, Mark, Sam, and Steve W decided to have round 2 of wreck hunting for the elusive sunken yacht in Chowder Bay with high hopes we would be more successful than round one last year.
After finding the end of the pier Fe was tasked with securing a line and Hartley took a bearing of 120 and the wreck hunters set off to find the yacht rumored to be in sitting in approximately 17m of water. After a seemingly endless swim across the sand in <1m green visibility we hit 19m of water and the call was made to abandon the search and head back along the line to the pier. Once back at the pier there was plenty to check out for the remainder of the dive including several octopuses lurking amongst the pylons and an interesting numb ray (apparently capable of giving a nasty zap if touched). It was agreed the highlight was a strange manikin wearing a dive mask resting against a structure known as ‘Seahorse Palace’ complete with a large vase sitting atop.
A debrief with B&E rolls and coffees at Bacino in Mosman rounding out the morning.
Another great Sydney shore dive… Who is up for wreck hunters round 3?
