Clovelly June 2023

Waves Shape

It was a beautiful Sydney winters day, crisp, sunny, light winds with a low swell when we meet up at Clovelly Pool at 10am on Sunday morning.

Alas, it was also just after low water, so once we got in after the usual kit phaff, you pretty much had to crawl over the wall on the way out of the pool. While the vis was a bit milky in the shallows, it was good at depth and the shafts of sunlight were enchanting.  Andy had his scooter so buzzed around while the others pootled along talking in the octopus and shoals of old wive’s as well as a few eels, stone fish and the odd large-tooth beardy hiding in the overhangs.  After half an hour the wetsuit divers were getting nippy (it was warmer in the water than on land at ~19’c at the surface, but ~15’C at 15m), so we turned around.  Care had to be taken to avoid getting dumped on the rocks while getting back into the shelter of the pool, but everyone made it back in one piece.  Post-dive, the drysuit diver couldn’t resist a 99 flake and everyone had lunch at the cafe and made the most of the sunshine.
