With the weather in Sydney feeling like Spring, and the arrival of Gareth and Angela visiting from BSAC Adeliade, it was time for SSAC to head out for a relaxing double recreational boat dive with Dive Spear Sport. The pick-up for the dive was Tunks Park in Northbridge, a spot none of our divers had been before, however, the parking was free and plentiful, the walk to the wharf was short, and even a little trailer cafe where Sam sampled the muffins but promptly got attacked by ravenous seagulls.

After cruising out middle harbour, under the spit bridge, out the heads, and turning left we arrived at “The Apartments” a dive site known for its huge boulders and swim throughs. Descending the line the water was looking a little green, although, once through 15m the visibility opened up to a nice 10m. There was plenty to explore through the boulders, and the highlight was a very curious wobbegong that followed us for a good while possibly thinking Paul looked rather tasty.

Once back on the surface the wind had increased significantly so it was decided to try and find a more sheltered spot…

Dive 2 was at “Colours Reef’ just inside south head, a lovely spot with a max depth of 20m although a bit chilly even for those in drysuits! Again, there was plenty to check out with the seagrass giving its best shagpile rug impersonation in the current, the biggest cuttle fish anyone had ever seen, and even a broad nose seven gill shark cruising past.

A great day out diving! Check out the photos below…
