Following the cancellation of the Shellharbour dive trip, the two Steves ventured back to Shelly Beach for a replacement dive. In hindsight, the 8am meeting time was less than ideal due to the large crowds and ensuing competition for car parking spaces. Spring and Summer shore dives at Shelly should start at 7! Nevertheless, the one-hour relaxing dive was spent cruising both sides of the bay to a depth of 8m, accompanied by the usual Rays, Blue Gropers, Luderick and Whiting.
Although shielded from the north easterly swells for most of the dive, we experienced some surge on the southern wall. Visibility of 3-5 metres and water temperature of 20 degrees were better than expected.
The obligatory post-dive coffee and delicious bacon-and-egg rolls were enjoyed at the Boathouse. A fitting conclusion to what turned out to be a great morning’s diving!
