For a few of us the kit was dusted off and ready for a a couple of dives with a somewhat extended time since being in the water. The weather forecast was good. Steve and Voyager arrived at Botany Bay Boat Ramp and we loaded the gear. This location is far more accessible than the trip down to Cronulla as was the case in the past when diving with Steve. The parking is free with plenty available, a few close to the ramp and pontoons.
The 1st dive (possibly at Anchor Reef) promised gullies and variable underwater scenery. If the viz was better it would probably live up to the expectations, but it wasn’t! So 2 Weedy Seadragons, kelp, a gullies or 2 provided an altogether average dive. This was exaggerated by the swell rising whilst under making the exit onto the boat interesting.
The 2nd dive was a contrast. It was decided to dive within Botany Bay on a reef 6-12m. This could have been a bad dive with poor viz as dredging was being done not 200-300m away from where we put the pick. So we all dived planning to reel off from the anchor which most did. However the visibility was much better than the 1st dive with more to see including Port Jackson Sharks, Nudibranchs, Cuttlefish, fish and more fish. The added plus was the easy entry and exit onto the boat with no swell. A great dive to finish the day.
Also the lunchtime snags were as good if not better than I remember, although not all could be persuaded to enjoy the culinary feast due to the slightly uncomfortable conditions out of the heads. To add to this Liz provided wonderful biscuits and veggy something or others. Thanks Liz come on the next dive I organise.
All agreed it was a good day with no major failures and divers safely returned to dry land.
Thanks to all that came along.
