The weekend of tech – Part 1 “SS Kelloe”
After a few months of bad weather and cancellations on Saturday SSAC was finally back tech diving with 5 SSAC divers heading out on the Abyss boat to dive the wreck of the SS Kelloe.
Sinking in 1902 after colliding with the SS Dunmore, the Kelloe was an iron hulled 50m long and 8m wide single screw steamship coming to rest off Little Bay in approximately 50m of water (read more about the SS Kelloe HERE).
After being underwater for 100yrs the wreck was rumoured to be broken up and relatively flat on the bottom, however, after making our way down the line to 50m we were pleased to find much more of the wreck than expected with the outline of the hull, a winch, 2 anchors, and lots of other wreckage clearly recognisable and visible. With plenty to check out the planned 20min bottom time was up all too soon and the group made their way back up the line for 30 odd mins of deco in nice clear Sydney water.
A great day out tech diving with the team!
