The Leap Dec 23

Waves Shape

With the original planned dive on the Adelaide being postponed during the week 5 SSAC divers were still keen to get underwater and take advantage of the Sydney summer weather. The back-up site of choice was The Leap drift which is fast becoming a favorite for the SSAC crew. Unfortunately, we lost 2 divers before the dive even started with one citing rebreather technical difficulties and one getting ready at the site only to discover their weights had gone missing in a recent house move. This left Gary, Steve T, and Steve W as the remaining divers ready to go.

Dodging the fisherman we took the giant stride off “the leap” and went off in a different direction to usual heading east before descending to 22m to take in more of the wall. The incoming tide offered little assistance initially before ramping up halfway and helping push us towards the Steps. Overall, a great dive with the usual sponges and marine life keeping us occupied, although, the highlight was definitely the giant tuna (or that’s what we decided it was) that came in pretty close to check us out at the end of the dive when we were doing our safety stop.

Standard coffee and debrief at Milkhouse rounding out the morning.

Sorry, no photos this time… I was too excited to get in the water and go diving.
