With mostly shore diving happening over the last few months it was high time SSAC got together and went out boat diving! Seven SSAC divers were keen and a single dive with DSS on the wreck of the Valiant was decided as the adventure for the weekend. The Valiant was a Tug that sunk under tow just off Palm Beach Peninsula in Broken Bay in 1981, coming to rest in 27m of water.
After being picked up by DSS’ shiny new dive boat we cruised along Pittwater and out into Broken Bay. 20min later the shot line was dropped, and final buddy checks were performed before we descended to the bottom of the shot line to find 5m visibility which, for the notoriously fickle visibility at this spot, was fairly good. We spent 35mins exploring the wreck which over the years has slowly deteriorated with the hull left as the most prominent feature but still plenty to see, Mark spotting an unidentifiable bottom feeder shark hiding under the hull ribs. An excellent dive and a great time had by all.
Back on shore, and with the day running a little late, the group quickly packed up to go attend to other commitments and enjoy the rest of the long weekend.
