The Sydney Sub Aqua Club (SSAC) was formed in 2004 by Geoff Shrimski (Chair) and Steve Pearson (Dive Officer). The SSAC is branch 2372 of the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC), it is not affiliated with any dive shop and is a not-for-profit club. The inaugural committee also included Tina Brain (Secretary) and Jon Anderson (Treasurer). The diving we do reflects the interests of the current membership and ranges from recreational, technical, rebreather, photographer, wreck and wildlife divers, so there’s always something for everyone.

We welcome divers from all other recognised training agencies. If you have your open water dive certificate and want to expand your diving experience in a sociable club environment, please join us. The club is run by the members for the members. Club members are happy to share their experience and knowledge with newer divers and a number are BSAC instructors. If you wish to progress your training talk to an instructor, they are happy to provide training to students at their own pace and at no extra charge beyond the BSAC membership and BSAC training fees. We have previously run courses at Sports Diver and Dive Leader level as well as a variety of skill development courses and technical training. Many of our members also have a range of experience and qualifications from other agencies in rebreather diving, boat skippering, cave diving, and first aid and are always eager to offer advice.
Dive trips range from local shore and boat dives to weekends away on the NSW coast. Since its formation, the club has had trips to Tasmania, the caverns and sinkholes in South Australia, and the reefs of Queensland. Overseas it has dived with wrecks and tropical fish in Vanuatu, decompressed over WWII wrecks in Chuuk Lagoon and rented a whole island in Papua New Guinea.
The club has an active social side with hiking, camping, canoeing and other adventurous activities regularly taking place. Social events such as Christmas in July and wine-tasting weekends are popular with both divers and non-diving friends and family.
We meet after work (~6pm) on the first Wednesday of the month at the Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel on Kent Street in The Rocks for dinner and a few beers.
