ANZAC Long Weekend Diving Apr ’26

Perfect Sydney Autumn conditions and a long weekend calls for one thing… Diving and lots of it!

Kicking off the weekend was a leisurely Sat morning dive at Shelly, with 4 SSAC punters keen to dodge the morning swimmers and get wet. Arguably, SSAC’s most frequented dive site it never fails to deliver a great dive and Sat was no exception. The highlight was aquarium like conditions and a massive cuttlefish that was doing its best to camouflage into the weed. As, usual coffee and rolls with the SSAC mascot Freddie the Pug topping off an excellent morning.

Sunday was time for the tech divers to head down to Brian’s at Ulladulla for some deeper diving with a cheeky stop at Bushrangers Bay on the way which delivered GN sharks galore despite the hoards of free divers and scuba divers at the site.

Mon morning, we dived a 44m reef named “The Pig Pen”, no idea why it’s called that as even with a healthy dose of nitrogen we didn’t see any pigs. 25mins on the bottom exploring the reef meant 35min deco which was made even more relaxing with the use of a deco station with individual deco lines. Once back on the boat we were circled by a very curious bronze whaler shark that luckily didn’t appear until after we got out of the water!

Rounding out the long weekend was a recreational 27m drift dive at a site called Burrill Rocks (?) featuring some amazing underwater topography and swim throughs.

If they say a bad day diving is better than a good day at work, then this long weekend proved a good day’s diving is better than any day at work 😊
